The proposed Regional Conservatorium and Planetarium is set to be the final addition to Orange’s Civic Centre. Comprised of 3 key areas: a conservatorium of music, a main recital hall, and a planetarium, the venue will become a new destination for both education and musical performances in Orange.
The proposed Conservatorium is formed of 30 practice studios aimed at offering one-to-one tutorship across the musical spectrum. Further ensemble and studio spaces add to the collegiate feel of the school. The design also includes a library with archive and study spaces and a landscaped internal courtyard.
The 250 seater recital hall is designed to be a key space for local and regional performances as well as an important practice venue for the conservatorium. Careful consideration has been given to the operations of both front and back of house spaces. That main foyer is served by a cafe/bar and has flexibility to host other private events on occasion. Full changing and preparation rooms have been included allowing for the smooth operation of performances.
A 500 seat auditorium located beneath an 11m projection dome. The venue uses the latest in digital projection to show various aspects of the solar system and offers a unique experience to local school groups in and around Orange.
