The new neighborhood centre at The Ponds will bring community and activity spaces to the residents of this rapidly growing outer Sydney suburb. The Neighbourhood Centre’s important objective is to create a focus for the suburb allowing all community groups to work together and can connect and interact.
The new facilities are located adjacent to a large ‘Lake’ linking new parkland and a children playground to the community centre. The design is over a single level with the multipurpose activity spaces, meeting rooms opening out on to an urban verandah. This space envisaged to be a community gathering space overlooking the adjacent waterway.
Community Meeting rooms
Working with the topography the entrance has been designed as a spine linking the carpark to the adjacent children’s playground and parkland.
The neighborhood centre was designed to be fresh inviting facility to encourage members of the community to use the facility to gather, celebrate, learn and interact within its multipurpose spaces. The rooms have been designed to create a variety of different spaces to suit different modes of meeting, learning and recreation.
A local enterprise cafe may be been incorporated into the design which opens onto the verandah, to allow both community building users and the local community to access refreshments.
