pdf movie slideshow

The Fanny Durack Aquatic Centre located in the inner city suburb of Petersham, adjacent the historic Petersham Oval, has been a local landmark and well used swimming pool for generations. The Centre was named after Sarah (Fanny) Durack, one of Australias first swimming superstars: she was the first woman swimmer to win an Olympic Gold Medal, at Stockholm in 1912, she held every world freestyle title of her time, from 100 yards to one mile. Fanny lived in Stanmore for much of her life.

BHA were engaged to design a major upgrade of the existing pool and associated amenities and administrative areas. Marrickville Councils goal is to raise the Centre to modern standards and to provide a high level of amenity whilst maintaining the family friendly ambience that has made the Centre a favourite with the local community.

The project includes reconstructing the existing 33m pool to provide a modern 25m, 8 lane pool suitable for learn to swim and school carnival competitions. Major landscaping works will be designed to enhance family and group gatherings.

The existing amenities will undergo a complete internal makeover, with energy efficient fittings and natural ventilation. A new Entry / Reception area will be constructed as well as a new Café / Kiosk pavilion which will serve both the pool patrons as well as the local Park users.

The Design team is also undertaking detail design and opereational analysis of the pool in order to produce a Carbon Neutral facility.
